1.1 This standard specifies a method for determining the hard-drying characteristics of a coating of paints or varnishes which dries by the action of air or by chemical reaction of its components. (This test 1s not appropriate until the coating has reached that state of drying when it cannot be disturbed by the plunger of the apparatus and redistributed over the substrate.) 1.2 This method of test may be carried out in either of the two manners as follows: 1.2.1 By assessing whether or not the coating is "hard-dry" after a specified time. 1.2.2 By determining the hard-dry state at suitable intervals until the hard-drying time is obtained.
