自身免疫 （autoimmunity）是指機體免疫系統對自身抗原發生免疫應答，產生自身抗體和（或）自身致敏淋巴細胞的現象。自身耐受（self tolerance）是指機體免疫系統對自身抗原不產生免疫應答，無免疫排斥的現象。
通常高等動物的免疫系統具有高度分辨“自己”與“非已”抗原物質的能力。在一般情況下，機體對“非已”抗原發生免疫排斥，而對自身抗原呈現自身耐受，其主要機制已如前述。
